PEL-3 Sector Lights

The PEL-3 Sector Light has been designed for night use on solar-powered installations. It can also be used day+night, and with commercial power via the VPR-36 switch-mode power supply.
The PEL-3 provides a signal up to 19 nautical miles (M) at night (3.5 degree subtense) with a 12 Volt, 100 Watt lamp, and is fully automatic in operation. Subtenses of 3.5° - 25° are available, and lamps from 10W - 100W.
The total subtense is divided up into individual sector angles to match the intended site. Each PEL-3 Light is supplied complete and ready to run, with 6-position

lampchanger, CALC-2001 flasher / lampchanger controller and automatic daylight switch. Oscillating Boundary is available for this light as an option. The Night Filter (to reduce intensity at night) is not available due to space constraints. However, lamp voltage reduction is available.
Contact Vega for assistance with selecting the appropriate subtense, lamp size and individual sector angles.
For detailed technical information and specifications, download the PEL Sector Light brochure (2 parts, both pdf files):
Part 1 contains general information and PEL-3 data.
Part 2 contains installation information and PEL-6 data.
PEL-3 Sector Light with 3.5 degree subtense, in use on the Panama Canal in Central America. This light marks the inbound "sailing line" for 2-way traffic.
Because of the slope of the terrain, it was not possible to set up a 2-station range with enough resolution for safe navigation.
With the PEL Lights the pilot is able to determine the lateral position of the vessel to within 2 metres (6 feet).
